Port Moody and Restaurants Going Fin Free

Global TV News Coverage, May 22

This evening Port Moody became the first Fin Free city in British Columbia by enacting legislation to ban the trade, sale, and distribution of shark fin products in their municipality. Port Moody joins the cities of Toronto, Brantford, Mississauga, Oakville, Newmarket, Pickering, and London in Ontario who have similar legislation.

It’s not just cities taking action, restaurants are too: Vancouver restaurants and businesses are seeing the change in tides and are starting to remove shark fin products from their menu and inventory and are looking to add sustainable alternatives. Shark Truth is actively working with Chinese restaurants and businesses in the greater Vancouver area who have already removed shark fin products from their establishments.

By actively engaging local restaurant and business owners in the second largest Chinese restaurant industry in North America, there is an opportunity to support those that go Fin Free and to help them become recognized leaders within the restaurant industry – leaders that other restaurants can aspire to be and follow suit in protecting sharks, and the environment.

What you can do to support the Fin Free movement:

  • Sign up for updates on restaurants and businesses that go Fin Free and the opportunity to come celebrate their decision. Be part of the growing movement that will show restaurants and businesses that there is a demand and overwhelming support for Fin Free establishments.
  • Sign the online National Shark Fin Import Ban Petition
