Meet the leaders behind the philosophy and success of Shark Truth.
Claudia Li | 李妍蕙 | Shark Truth Founder, Hua Foundation Co-Founder
When Claudia founded Shark Truth in 2009, she had eaten shark fin soup at a family dinner banquet only weeks before. A first generation Chinese-Canadian and an epicurean at heart, she realized the power of cross-cultural storytelling to invoke change in her community for shark conservation.
Claudia holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, with concentrations in Marketing, International Business and an Honours in Sustainability. As an alumnus of the Next Up leadership program, Claudia was inspired to leverage her skills in marketing and communications in environmental justice.
She has won numerous awards for her leadership and was chosen by Explore Magazine as a Top 30 Under 30. Claudia is also a Paul Harris Fellow and has been nominated for leadership in Community Service by North American Association of Asian Professionals.
Kevin has always been fascinated by our world’s ecosystems and since university, became increasingly concerned about the state of our oceans. Born in Taiwan, Kevin’s love for seafood started at a young age when he learned how to peel a shrimp before being able to hold chopsticks correctly. His passion for the oceans naturally extended to conservation so he can share this passion with future generations. As Shark Truth’s Director of Campaigns, Kevin carries forth his passion for protecting nature by strategizing and implementing Shark Truth’s campaigns toward our vision of healthier oceans.
Kevin holds a BSc. in Biology from Simon Fraser University and currently serves as a David Suzuki Foundation SeaChoice Seafood Ambassador. He spends his time off exploring other parts of the world with the ambitious goal of visiting thirty countries before turning thirty.
